Surgery You love your pet and hearing that pet surgery is necessary can be scary. Whether your pet needs a routine spay and neuter or an emergency surgery we want to ensure you understand why surgery is necessary so you can make an informed decision about your petโ€™s health.

Common Surgery Procedures

Spay & Neuter

Spay and neuter surgeries are usually performed to prevent reproduction or the risk of future medical problems.

Cosmetic Surgery

We take a stand on not performing any cosmetic procedures on pets, including docking tails, cropping ears, or

Dental Surgery

Dogs and cats sometimes require dental surgery. Some common reasons for dental surgery include root canals

Emergency Surgery

Some common emergency surgical procedures include removal of a foreign object and surgical oncology.

Surgical Oncology

Surgical resection is performed when pets get cancers in systems such as skin, musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal tract.

The Importance of Anesthesia

When your pet requires surgery, it is important that they donโ€™t move during the procedure. Anesthesia controls their level of consciousness and ensures they donโ€™t move or feel pain. The veterinary anesthesia specialist will take all the necessary precautions to ensure your pet is safe.

Post-op Surgical Care After surgery, your pet will need time to heal and rest. You will need to restrict their activity to speed up healing. The amount of activity that must be restricted will vary depending on the type of surgery. Minor surgeries may require three to seven days of restricted activity, while major surgeries may require three to six weeks or longer. ย If your pet moves around too much the tissues may not heal properly, and the risk of infection and other complications increases.

Commonly prescribed post-op medications include antibiotics to prevent infection and pain medication to relieve post-op pain and discomfort. If your pet is high energy, we may prescribe a sedative to help them rest.
